Legislative Affairs Specialist
Location: Ft. Meade, MD, USA
Legislative Affairs Specialist
Key Role:
Provide support to a DoD client office. Monitor the status of defense legislation, pertinent hearings, markups, and floor actions. Prepare client staff for congressional hearings and respond to congressional inquiries. Coordinate with government officials to obtain review and approval.
Basic Qualifications:
-10+ years of experience in the legislative affairs field or department-level planning or execution
-Experience with legislative and regulatory documents
-Experience with reviewing and analyzing congressional hearing transcripts and preparing or submitting Questions for the Record (QFR) and Inserts for the Record (IFR)
-Experience with researching and writing background papers, talking points, and oral and written statements, including providing legislative briefings to leadership
-Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process
-Ability to pay strict attention to detail
-TS/SCI clearance required
-BA or BS degree
Additional Qualifications:
-Ability to prepare leadership for testifying to and meeting with government members and pertinent staff members
-Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
-Ability to act in a proactive manner with actions focused on problem-solving and analyze the implementation of systems and procedures to ensure that projects and documents are kept on track and internal and external deadlines are met
-Possession of excellent organizational skills
-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
-TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
-BA or BS degree in Political Science or a related field
Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
